French Studies

The elective French course focuses on developing students’ French language skills and understanding of France’s culture. France and Australia have a strong relationship developed through a shared history. France is a popular tourist destination for Australians and our Stage 5 French course is aimed at giving our French students the language required to get around France. Topics include, shopping, navigating in a new city and daily lifestyle.

Our French students will enjoy learning the course content, as it is presented in an authentic and interactive way that caters for all levels of French learners. Students who elect to do French in Year 9 and 10 will be eligible to participate in our Sister School program to the Reunion Island and Paris. This special program will give our students the opportunity of a lifetime to experience a truly immersive French visit.

International Studies

The elective International Studies course focuses on cross–cultural understanding in the local and global context. Increasing trade, migration and globalisation opens Australia to cross–cultural interaction. Australia’s future development, economic growth and identity will depend on how well Australians engage with individuals, businesses, organisations and governments, through intercultural understanding.

Each year the students will select 2 or 3 options that will shape their study. The options are varied and include themes such as; Visual and Performing Arts, Sport, Textiles, Art and Architecture, Travel, Science, Technology and Change and Food.  There is also the possibility to create our own options, so it is very flexible. Student interest drives the direction of this dynamic course.

**International Studies CANNOT be chosen with iStem (you must choose between the two subjects)**

Japanese Studies

The elective Japanese course focuses on developing students’ Japanese language skills and understanding of Japan’s rich and varied culture. Japan and Australia have a strong and positive relationship. Japan is the 3rd strongest economy in the world and Australia’s 2nd largest trading partner. Japan offers Australians an exciting and unique travel destination, and our Stage 5 language program is aimed at giving students the language skills to get around Japan.

Our Japanese course offers students the opportunity to learn to communicate in Japanese for a variety of purposes. For example, shopping, travelling on transport and daily lifestyle. Students will have many authentic opportunities to practise their Japanese, such as; special lessons with our Japanese assistants, exciting excursions to the Japan foundation and restaurants. In Year 10, students will have the chance to participate in our Sister School Program in Japan. This is an amazing program that has been running for over 30 years and is a highlight of Kirrawee’s Japanese program.
